It depends on the year. Both tend to be expensive to repair. My sister in law has a x3 and she is replacing little things (handles, knobs, etc) on it frequently. She says it nickle and dimes her to death. A girl friend of mine has a range rover and she has had engine and transmission issues. The newer model of BMW x3 is more reliable of the two, but does not compare to Lexus and Audi for reliability. Lexus has the lowest cost repairs of the luxury lines.
Hands over your head! Step AWAY from the Rover!!!!
Sassysissie would you think a 2011 x3 be better? That's the ones I have been looking at!

The 2011 BMW X3 has a good reliability rating at 3.9 out of 5. They are beautiful and comfortable. Be sure to have a savings account just for the expected/surprise repairs. Usually little things, but because it's German it will be spendy. Personally, I love them, but I am not surprised when something breaks and I just get it fixed. They are 10 times more reliable than a Rover. They are rated higher reliability than Ford, Audi, and Volvo for 2011. Good choice :)
