Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is it possible that a sensor/light was triggered when I didn't turn key all the way
over?  Was told that is what happened last time light came on

The dash lights come on when key is turned and car has not been started, if check light continues to stay on go have the code scanned.

If you turn the key and all the lights come on the dash, and the vehicle isn't started, those are start up lights. This is normal. If any lights stay on while your vehicle is actually put in the on crank position and they do not shut off, then there is an issue. Check your oil if the light stayed on when the car first started and faded, but only if the key was cranked, not the start up lights. Meaning, turn your car on, if the light stays on after the key is cranked to on, there may be an issue. If the light only comes on when the key is in the on position but not cranked, there shouldn't be any issues with warning lights. Short answer, just luck or maybe the right solution. My granddaughter brought her 2006 Hyundai Tucson over and said her check engine light was on. I had heard about recalls for problems with gas caps so I tried that. No luck. She needed gas so I took it to fill it up. When I activated the pump and inserted the nozzle I tried to set the latch to hold the handle open. It clicked off like it was full. I tried a couple more times, but had to manually hold the nozzle open to slowly try to fill it. Finally it occurred to me that it may be a vapor recovery problem. I removed the nozzle and rocked the car a few times to see if had fuel blocking any of the vapor lines (topping off can cause this problem). After rocking the car, I was able to engage the hold open latch on the nozzle and it flowed with ease. When the fuel filled it clicked off and I was careful not to top it off. As I left the pump island, voila!! The check engine light was off and stayed off. I don't know if this will remedy all problems, but it's worth a try. No repairs, no mechanics, just common sense. Vapor recovery systems are temperamental.

If this happened then you need to check purge valve and or charcoal canister (EVAP SYSTEM), canister likely has been flooded with fuel either by faulty purge or too much fuel in tank when filling up and filling the vent lines with raw fuel.

There is no real cure with the Fonzy nudge, bump or a snap of fingers. Glad it worked for you though.
