Car stalling and cranks hard before engine turns over

Asked by KDocken83 Apr 22, 2018 at 07:53 PM about the 2005 Hyundai Tucson GLS 2WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tucson. I was having issues
with my car idling rough, jerking forward, and then
stalling....usually while slowing down to turn,
coming to a stop, and or while accelerating from a
stop. it would turn back on but it was difficult for it
to turn over. it would crank longer than normal and
then it was like it'd catch and start up. I did have a
diagnostic test ran to see if there were any codes
coming up. apparently my check engine light is
burnt out so I don't know if my check engine light
has been on or not. that was one of the codes that
came up...the other ones were for my O2 sensors
(the guy couldn't be more specific on which ones),
and my crankshaft sensor. my MAF sensor and
throttle body have been cleaned, my throttle body
position sensor was replaced, all new spark plugs
(your normal tune up), and then my crankshaft
sensor was fixed (I guess the wiring was fixed but
not actually replaced. that was 9 or 10 months
ago. I've had no issues for those 9 or 10 months.
fast forward to recently...its stalling again while
coming to a stop or in park. the rpms go high for
no reason (parked or slowing down), jerks forward
and when it stalls its having a difficult time and
repeatedly cranks when starting the car. it'll
eventually start but not like it should. took it to
have the codes read if any. still having an error
code for the crankshaft sensor. brought it back and
relayed that to the mechanic. he replaced my MAF
and I still had the same issues. he then fixed the
crankshaft sensor harness. drove it for an entire
day and no issues! until the next day. as soon as I
came to a stop my engine stalled and had a
difficult time cranking to turn over. so far there
really isn't a pattern of when this happens. it just
does it a few times in a row then it doesn't happen
for a bit but the issues always comes back.  I also
noticed when I picked it up from the shop that I
could smell antifreeze while parked after driving it.
I did just get an oil change so I'm not sure if the
antifreeze was topped off and dripped on the
engine but I'm not seeing any leaks or puddles
under my car. I am at my wits end and I'm trying to
figure out what I can do to fix it properly. help!

I have tucson 2005 GLS v6. I have same issue as yours. it stalls at low speed. if you keep pressing gas paddle it wont stall. being said put in neutral/park and press gass paddle to keep more than 3000 rpm. i brought to canadian tire. paid $400 with no solution . they said there is no code. may need mass air control sensor. they cleaned throttle . i took it to local mechanic with a hope after. he said it may need a new battery. he installed new battery and cleaned headlights for no reason. he charged me 300 dollars. finally i went to the dealer. they said it needs crank sensor . they changed for 325. stalled again. again dealer said need tps sensor. changed for 195. then idle air control $175. bought mass air sensor $124. still stall spent over 1500. bought code reader, current reader.no luck. now throwing it in scrap yard. no one one the problem. everyone has different view. it doesnt worth spending more on this car. no one want to buy this scrap even for $500. such a waste of time and money
