The point is your car has a timing chain problem. Minis in general are not as good as Toyota's, Honda's etc.
From the Autoworks website ---- there has been a serious reoccurring issue with the MINI Cooper vehicles from 2007 – 2011. In these cars the timing chain, which BMW claims to be maintenance free, causes catastrophic damage to the motors of these vehicles because the timing chain’s tensioner is always breaking at around 30,000 – 50,000 miles on the road. The sad truth is BMW is normally a very reputable manufacturer, but with this big flaw, they refuse to acknowledge it and offer a recall for its customers.
Minis, are only slightly more reliable than Yugos. That Mini will likely be nothing but trouble. Those cars have had all kinds of issues.
