Asked by Chris May 18, 2015 at 07:31 PM about the 2012 Ford Edge

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2012 Edge, CE light came on  yesterday. I was very low on fuel. Car filled today. Light
on. Dis connected battery for 20 min plus. after reconnect, light on immediately. Shouldn't
the light be out until the codes re-set? Car in top shape, 43K. What else to try?

Tom, thanks, could you address why the light is not out for a while no matter what, after the battery has been disconnected?

My mechanic said the computer has internal memory on the newer models so disconnecting the battery won't clear the codes if something actually needs to be repaired.

check and make sure your gas cap is on tight

I have same issue. Goes on then clears after 4 or 5 restarts of the engine. Check for warnings and it shows as 0 warnings. I figured it had something to do with the vacuum closing the capless gas tank.

I have the same issue. It failed the emissions test even though it showed no error codes. The emissions man said to call the State of Georgia and ask them what to do. When the light went off again my husband had it retested and it passed. Next fill up it came back on. It is probably another failed sesor. The third one on this car. The Door Ajar, almost carjacked, brake booster, brakes went to the floor , automatic headlights do not turn on , driving at night on busy highway unaware lights did not come on. Now this, I never will own another Ford.

My ford edge 2015 has engine light on, been at Ford beginning August 2019 a total of 2.5 months while they try to fix it. It's on again now and I am wondering if this can be fixed at all? It spends more time at Ford than with me. :(

I have a 2013 Edge with this problem. It will go off for a week and then come on again. Usually stay on for 3 days or so. It seems to be related to the capless gas tank. Is there a fix?

I had the same issue. Turned out to be a sensor wire that was bad and had to be replaced. Needs to go in and be diagnosed. was a couple hundred dollars to correct the problem.
