2012 Dodge Grand Caravan - What is the 'DTE' display?

90

Asked by vclffrd Oct 12, 2011 at 05:59 PM about the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question type: General

The electronic console shows the temperature, mpg, two trip odometers, total mileage, speed, etc. But, there is one entry labeled 'DTE' that is not explained in the manual. In fact, much of the manual doesn't match my console at all. Anybody know what is referring to? Numbers appear but I can't correlate what they go to. Other than that, a great automobile so far.

DTE stands for Due Till Empty, pretty much its telling you how many miles you have left before your tank is empty

Duel Tack Eletrode, has to do with tackodometer,if the tack gets out of sink with the RPM,s,it will light up.

hes talking about the Due Till Empty display, it displays numbers which correlate to the number of miles left before the gas tank is empty

also on a car this new, the tachometer will never be out of sync. the reason for that is because the tachometer on this vehicle gets its reading from the ECM which gets a digital signal from the crankshaft position sensor. a misreading tachometer is pretty much a thing of the past.

i totally spew BS which is why my answer to the question was 100% correct, seeing as i have the same DTE on my 2004.5 ram 3500. ive honestly never even heard of a Dual Tach Electrode, its possible its a make believe part, or just before my time as an automotive technician.

I'll take Dan's answer with thanks, and hope this stops the diatribe between him and Papa.

Distance till empty or Drive till empty to prove this if for example it says DTE 135 it means you can go about 135 miles based off your driving average MPG but if you simply put gas in or fill up you will see that number increase because you have a lot more gas until your tank is empty

Since the numbers roll backward, Distance 'Til Empty makes sense to me. Grammee

Changes the shift points. Less performance. Better fuel economy.

Thanks for the answers to the "DTE" inquiry. That makes sense, but mine sometimes goes UP instead of DOWN. And I swear it showed something like 78 miles to go when I fueled - put 18.2 gallons in a 20 gallon tank. MPG was around 23mpg. Can the DTE and fuel gauge get out of sync?

After I purchased my Dodge Grand Caravan, I was able to order a free 526 page owner's manual from the manufacturer. And on page 264, it states "Distance To Empty (DTE) shows the estimated distance that can be traveled with the fuel remaining in the tank. When the DTE value is less than 30 miles (48 km) estimated driving distance, the DTE display will change to a LOW FUEL message.!

On page 346 of the thick owner's manual, it states "The Fuel Economy mode can improve the vehicle's overall fuel economy during normal driving conditions. When the Fuel Economy mode is engaged, the vehicle control systems will change the following: the transmission will upshift sooner downshift later; the transmission will skip select gears during shifts to allow the engine to operate at lower speeds; the torque converter clutch may engage at lower engine speeds and and remain on longer; the engine idle speed will be lower; the overall driving performance will be more conservative.
