what to do with steering wheel lock message?

I parked the car last night and left the wheels turned.  This morning I cannot start the car
and on the front panel there is a message to check for steering wheel lock.
Called the dealer and he could not explain or help.  Turned the battery off and it did not
work.  Looking for help.  tks
