Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently purchased this car and have noticed five
quick beeps in succession. Can't seem to pinpoint
a cause, but it has been happening more often at all
Hours of the day and night!

The most likely cause for such problem would be horn wire exposed and touching ground. Second would be a bad horn relay. Please click on "Mark helpful" if you're happy with the respond. Good luck :-)

That sounds like an anti-theft alarm setting itself. I do know Equinoxs beep when being unlocked by a key in the door (and not the fob). A faulty door sensor could be the underlying cause of why the alarm is being set while driving.

Badcarz....is this something an average person could fix or should I take it in?

Ken....here is the weird thing....my car beeps every time I use the fob to unlock. If I try to use the key itself to unlock, the actual alarm goes off!!! Also, the five quick beeps are when the car is parked and not in motion. It wakes me up in the middle of the night all the time!!!

Is it possible that a lost key or FOB is somewhere inside the vehicle?

Bob...I guess anything is possible haha! I bought it used and now that you mention it...they said they only had one key for me!

I know on our Lincoln if you leave a key in it and close the door the horn honks 3 times, but I an not that familiar with your vehicle. Just a thought. Let us know what you find.

Does it have a remote starter?

If your remote starter is after market it would but the first suspect as a faulty component. Suggest to by pass it and see if that makes a difference. Some of these alarms/starter could be unplugged and your all set, but some of them require jumping wires and doing some bypass. I recommend to have it seem by a shop. Please click on "Mark helpful" if you're happy with the respond. Good luck.

Okay so we know you have a remote starter installed and a wonky anti-theft going off randomly. Get rid of the remote starter and try to restore your anti-theft to original settings. Hopefully whoever installed it didn't use that hacky method of bypassing alarm by permanently hiding one of the original master keys in the dash somewhere. What happens then is you lock the vehicle and because the vehicle has detected the key is still in it, chirps the horn. Find out what sort of remote starter was installed and how it deactivate alarm or contact previous owner and ask them what the deal is.

My 2019 Chevy Silverado RST does 3 short 4 fast or 5 quick all at different times, running or not. I think it has to do with aftermarket wiring. I put in lights in the grill wired in the fuse box. Hasn't done it since I unhooked it.

Mind does it while idling for a length of time...i.e. well eating in the car with the AC or heater on… Will all of a sudden give five short bursts of horn and the left signal will come on quickly, and then five short first and the right signal will come on quickly.
