I have a 2012 X3 and I've been told the transmission needs to be replaced. I have only done about 62,000km. How long should a transmission last?

That is only 38,500 miles on it. Unless you have be having your fun with this vehicle, and have ben beating the sh*t out of it, I think I would get another opinion. The transmission should last you like 150,000 miles or 241,400km
Used BMWs can be trouble. Talk to a BMW dealer to see if BMW will foot the bill.

Thanks for your responses, guys. Rowefast: I expected that the transmission should be good for another 60,000km (five years) I do have fun with my car but as a school mum sedately tootling around the suburbs, LOL, rather than putting it through it's paces. The specific problem is that i has an automatic transmission which intermittently pops out of Drive and into Park when I'm stopped with my foot on the break at the traffic lights. It seems extreme to be expected to pay AUD$11,000 to correct this problem. Bob: I bought my car new in 2012 but I am following up with BMW and they will give me answer next week. Meanwhile the fob has decided to play up too. Ho Hum. Is it time to consider a trade-in for a Lexus or Audi or similar.

Ooops. I meant my car should be good for another 180,000km ...15 years...
