2001 Trooper sputters and chokes on cold start.

Question type: General

It starts up instantly, but then sputters and chokes. If I don't give it some gas right away, it
dies. Once I get it going, it's fine. It then runs perfectly and starts perfectly throughout the
day. This is happening every morning for the last six days, on cold start only.

Possible causes: Weak/failing fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, bad injector. Check those.

Be sure to check the mass air flow sensor. If the fuel components all check out ok then that would be the next likely problem.
