Your best bet would be to install manual locking hubs on your front axle, and disconnect your driveshaft whenever you tow. With the limited slip differetial on the rear axle there's no telling what spinning that driveshaft for miles on end would do to the plates that are normally used to having pressure applied in the other direction. However with the front lockers intalled, there would be no such concern for the front. The easiest way to add a set is to buy some from Superlift for a 98 Rodeo. Don't worry they still fit the Trooper. I installed a Set on my 2000 Trooper LS to save gas and wear on my CV joints. Just do a search and you'll find all the pictures from sombody else who did it just like I did.

No. Do not flat tow the vehicle. Use a car carrier where all 4 wheels are off the road.
