key lock

Asked by Cathy Sep 25, 2018 at 02:01 PM about the 2013 Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2013 Honda Accord, I can leave my purse in the car with my key
fob in the purse. My husband can lock the car and we walk away and ALL
the doors are locked. A couple of years ago my 2-year-old grandson was in
the car and I accidentally hit the door lock and shut the door with my
grandson in the car and the key fob was in the car. I could not open any of
the doors, it was 110 degrees outside. Had I not been in my garage when it
happened and could get to my husband's key fob in the house I would have
had to call 911 or break windows. I took our car 2 x to Honda and they
discounted what happened, 5 years now and it still does this. Has anyone
else had this happen

Ok so, the person who answered your question is a bit demeaning, but he is correct. There's a logical explanation---I'll tell you what I've done before in my 2013 Honda Accord. I have had an identical situation. Basically this: I dropped my keys into the middle area in a cupholder. My husband was on the other side of the vehicle with his keys and one of us accidentally pushed the button on the handle outside, locking it without realizing it. Then, he left into the house and I remembered I still hadn't grabbed something out of the car I needed. It was locked with my keys inside..... So I had to go get his and unlock it. The second time this situation happened, he was already gone. So, if your second key is close enough to your car (like sitting in a car next to your car) when one of the outside buttons get pushed, that key will be what the car uses to say it's ok to lock because that key can be used to unlock it, as it is also outside of the Honda Accord. It's one of the only scenarios that allow you to lock your keys in the car. Having your keys in the car alone should absolutely never allow you to push the lock button if there are no other copies around the outside of your vehicle (it will just beep at you). Hope that helps to explain.

Does my 2004 Honda Accord have a hidden key hole if the release lever stops working for entry into the trunk?
