Battery died 1 month after oil change inspection

Asked by PriusC2012 Jul 27, 2017 at 06:31 PM about the 2012 Toyota Prius c

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had an oil change in June at a Toyota
dealership. They checked my battery and
result came back "green" (green=ok,
yellow=need attention, red=immediate
attention). Then my battery died the next
month in July. When I called for an
explanation, the rep just said "it happens"!
If it's true, then what's the point of
checking battery regularly? Thoughts?
Should I call them back and demand an
explanation?

Depends on the type and age of the battery. Is it an AGM or a flooded battery? Is it a maintenance-free (sealed) battery? All batteries have a service life - most should last at least 4 years if maintained properly. Check the mfg date. If your battery is less than 4 years old, an explanation might be due.

I think it was time for a new battery because it had been exactly 5 years since I got my car. But how come the dealership result was "green" and then jump all the way to dead in one month? What happened to yellow, red?

same thing happened with us on Toyota Prius .. (High volt Battery) .. how can we rule out mishandling?
