2013 Model. How to turn off Dome Lights when hatch is open

Hmmm? I'm going to TRY to take a stab at this one. First of all, using tape on the dome lights would seem to be a fire hazard...so no go on that! I know the front dome lights of MOST cars have an "OFF" setting, so that they won't turn on at ALL, but any lights in the rear may have to be "defeated" by possibly pulling the fuse that applies to them. Any other suggestions, Gurus??

Way to go, David! I knew the Master Guru would find a solution! Also, it is nice that there are areas of the country that still has drive-in theaters...All the ones in my area are now closed and turned into outdoor flea markets or demolished and have a Walmart built there :(

We just had this problem with our 2013 Explorer and we pushed the lock latch on the back hatch(inside, bottom of hatch)to lock and then hit lock on the key fob and they went off. Then to unlock it, we pushed the button on the back hatch that we would normally to open it. Hopefully makes sense.

I found this because I have the same question accept a 2013 Fors Escape. We had an envoy before and it was perfect for the drive inn but the escape isn't flat with the seats down so you can't even lay comfortably but the rear interior lights won't turn off either. We had to cover them with towels. Any help with this model?

Ok so the post previous to the last has it correct. So grab a pencil and or pen. On the bottom of the back hatch door you will see the lock mechanism. Put the pen or pencil in there and move it up toward the sky. The hatch is now locked and the dome light will go out. Make sure to hit unlock on your driver door before for go to re close the back hatch

Ford is going to try and reprogram my explorer with the police blackout option. They want to charge $50 for this :( They are not even sure it is going to work.

I just used this tonight while at the drive-in in SoCal, worked like a charm. With key on, listening to the radio: •Open Liftgate •Lower Liftgate to eye level and look at lock •Using another car key, pencil, pen or screwdriver to push the locking mechanism closed by applying pressure to top of lock (where lock would latch closed on bar above bumper) •Make sure the lock clicks twice (once closes it partially and twice closes it completely) to simulate the door being locked •Within seconds of closing the latch manually the interior light will turn off! To close the Liftgate, you must simply lower the Liftgate enough to touch the button under the Liftgate handle (as if you were opening it from the outside)—then proceed to close the Liftgate. ENJOY ;)

continuing with the question of lights at the Drive-In......In my 2017 Edge, per the manual, to have car in Acc mode, so the radio will work...you push the start button, WITHOUT your foot on the brake. All well and good. I was able to dim most the lights instantly via the control panel (light mode)...But then the car would completely shut down every 20 or 25 minutes and I would have to hit start again and then dim all the lights again. Very frustrating. Any help???

This didn’t help. The lights don’t go off after 10 minutes. They don’t go off with the hatch open. The other thread said that as well. HOWEVER, If you LOCK your car with the hatch still open- the lights WILL go off. Just make sure to have your keys with you if you close the hatch!
