Brake Light Issues

Asked by Rob May 22, 2018 at 09:45 AM about the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had to replace numerous rear
lights on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra as
they have been burning out in groups.
Now my 3rd (center) light is out. I
believe that this is an LED, so shouldn't
be burning out like incandescent bulbs.
Could this be an electrical problem, bad
timing, etc? I can't decipher the fuse
descriptions to figure out which affects
my 3rd light; any help would be
appreciated

The same thing happened to me. I have the same car as you and once a month I would find a build that was burnt out. After a while I was driving home one day and all my brake lights went out as well as one nighttime light. I took it to Hyundai and the problem was the brake harness. Since they fixed it I have not had another light go out for a year and counting.

I have similar problem with my '08 Elentra. My cruise control stopped working 3 months ago and last week someone pulled aside saying all my brakes lights aren't working. I researched and seems major problem in Hyuandais.seems like switch problem We found a root of a problem. At O'Reilly's part store called it stoplight switch. Its located behind the brake pedal. It's all connected cruise control u need to brake it to stop cruising right? Switch is sticking and stuck on so all brake lights were always on and lights bulbs gets hot and burn out. So the part cost us 10.99!! We replaced stoplight switch and replaced all back lights ( not turn signal light- that was working fine) . It works beautifully. I guarantee you. It that stupid part. I thought its switch blew those lights but cant be 'cuz it runs only 12 voltage.

I am currently having this issue! I could NOT order the switch I had to call around and finally I found it in North Carolina, I had to have my AutoZone call theirs and get it for me (cost me shipping etc) I bought new bulbs and now I still don’t have any break lights! I guess I will look to see how hard it is to do the harness.

my driver side brake light was not working, I replaced bulb and still not working. There was dirt in the area where the wires connect to the bulb. What could that effect?

I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Not long after buying it, I started having rake lights go out. It's STILL a problem and no recall. I've filed a complaint. Nothing happened. I'm told to go back to Hyundai dealership and have them check it out. I consider this very serious since brake lights are needed!!! Any tips or ideas from anyone experiencing this?
