2013 Kia Soul. The phone charger does not work.

Asked by Ginger Mar 17, 2016 at 09:53 AM about the 2013 Kia Soul

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have purchased new chargers and cords and nothing works.
Is there a fuse somewhere that may be the problem?
If so, where is it and how do I purchase and replace the fuse?
Thanks,  Going on a trip and I am afraid to travel alone without the phone
working.

You can test the power outlet by plugging a charger cord into an outlet on another car or plugging a known good device (like an air pump) into the outlet in your car. If the results indicate your outlet is dead, the fuse is the first suspect. If you have the owner's manual it should tell you where the fuse panel is and what fuse controls the power outlet (likely with other accessories as well). If you don't have a manual, look at the underside of the dashboard or along the side of the dashboard exposed when you open the driver's door. It usually is marked and has a flat cover over it that will pry loose. If you are going on a trip, it is always a good idea to have a selection of fuses with you. Assortments can be bought in any auto parts store with typically 5, 10, 15, and 20 amp sizes in a small box but be sure they are the same type as your KIA. Ask the parts guy and be sure to get a couple for the size needed to get your outlet back working.

Mine also doesn't work but I have replaced the fuse. I guess I can try to replace the actual lighter.

They had the lighter fuse marked incorrectly on the car!!! Very irritating. I forgot what one it was but try the other fuses.

On my 2013 Souls the fuse could be any of 3. There is a cig lighter, acc, and power outlet fuse. It my be the 15 amp power fuse because it is quite hidden towards the bottom.
