Suspect corrosion

Asked by GuruC5B3J Feb 06, 2019 at 12:32 PM about the 2013 Buick Verano

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our 2013 Buick Verano with 30,000 miles started displaying a couple error
messages on the dashboard display about a year ago.  "Side Detection" and
"Airbag Service" were a constant annoyance. My wife and I are in our '70's
and we just ignored it.  Car ran fine.  This morning shortly after driving on
some rain-soaked streets other messages appeared and the gauges (Tach,
Speedometer, Gas, Temp) stopped working too.   I strongly suspect a
plug/connector corrosion problem.  Where would be the connector for the
gauges?  I am hoping to find a blue-green gob that I can clean-up.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I went out and braved the weather and found nothing under the hood, both top and bottom. I checked the firewall area both inside and out - all appeared normal. All connections were solid. I did find that the gauges pass the POST (Power On Self Test) and then die. Time to stop mucking around before I break something. Decision time. ~Lee

Ed92626, I took my Verano to the dealer this morning. All my sensor and display problems were caused by a defective REAR SIDE DETECTION MODULE. The module was dragging down all the other warning modules and was gradually getting worse. The wrench turner told me it would have eventually cause even more failures and possibly BIG expen$ive repairs. The labor and two sensors came to $1,100.00. Car is once again perfect. Thank you for your sage advice; following it got me rolling again and saved me money in the long run. You are a real asset to this site. ~Lee
