truck starts and idles fine. the moment I touch the gas it dies.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My truck has had a few problems lately. First started with running fine but
sounding like a miss and intermittent idle speed. decided to change ignition,
cap, rotor, wires, plugs. ran much better on the high end. however idle was
worse and it died on me many times at stops and lights. decided to clean
and rebuild the carb. Now it idles better than it ever has and starts
beautifully, but dies the moment you touch the gas pedal. I can get it to rev
up if I feather the pedal but it runs terribly. any help would be appreciated.

The accelerator pump may need adjusting or rebuilding.
A smog legal (or not) Weber conversion may solve all your problems. Those old smog carbs are difficult to rebuild properly.
Thanks for the responses. Thought about a conversation before just didn't want to spend too much money. I tinkered with it more rebuilt the accelerator pump when I did the rest of the carb. The air fuel mixture screw was almost all the way out. I assumed ( incorrectly) it was still factory set but someone before I had the truck messed with it. Was almost all the way out causing an extreme case of poor throttle response. Runs like a champ now.
I used to have a 1979 Nissan and when the smog carb crapped out I rebuilt it but it never ran quite right. A Weber gave me A big boost in HP and it ran great.
I will look into it as the original was a pain to rebuild and remove with all the extra hoses and linkages. What model Weber would you recommend.
I would have to go online just like you would to research it. I would think you could find websites that sell parts for older Nissan/Datsun pickups.
