What could be wrong when the engine runs fine and starts missing.

Asked by Cab Mar 08, 2012 at 06:55 PM about the 1997 Nissan Pickup 2 Dr STD Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The spark plugs were carboned showing too much fuel. I changed the spark plugs and wires still no change. I also put Lucas fuel injection cleaner in and still no change.

i had the same problem with my truck, but my truck was giving me high RPM readings. I also thought it was the spark plugs or wiring, what it was the air control sensor or valve. It wasn't working correctly so the system on the vehicle was guessing how much air it was taking in, and injecting more fuel, causing the cylinder to contain to much fuel and the spark plug not burning all hydrocarbons,, also causing carbon on spark plugs and causing failure to ignition. Called dealership and part was $135.00. hopefully useful information.
