Wont move

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 grand cherokee. When it is on the lift
in the air, all gears work and it drives. As soon as
you put it on the ground (pit weight to the wheels)
it wont move in any gear. And then also grinds
when you put it into park. Any thoughts?

When on the ground it still goes in all gears, but still will not move.

But in the air it still shifts through all gears and drives.

Interesting. Start to finish, I was driving then let off the gas and went around a turn. Hit the gas and nothing. Put it into park, nothing! It wouldn't even go into park. I jad it towed and we replaced the transfer case thinking that was the issue. While in the air and after replacing it we went though all the gears and we thought it was fine. Put it down and still went into gears correctly. Just would not move. After all that it still will not go into park though.

Internal damage. Either the front pump is gone or the direct drive clutch packs. This transmission uses clutch packs only. No forward or reverse bands. Time for a rebuild. Get ready to drop about $2500.

Thanks for the info. I didn't get a chance to dig into it over the weekeed. But those issues would explane what is wrong with it. But @ that cost it won't be getting fixed lol.

Finally got the jeep to a tranny shop. They checked it over and found NO issues! Fluid was fine, opened it up and it looked like new they said! They are thinking something electrical. Any suggestions? It will go through all shifter gears without applying the break. Drive shaft turns when in gear - but no movement. Put it back into park and it makes a clicking sound. But dose not actually go in park (goes in but its like neutral) he suggested a parking paw?

TT302 - yes, all it ended up being was the front CV Axle. Because its AWD, since it was bad, when one wheel won't spin. None of them will. Replaced at about $200 and haven't had an issue the last 10k miles.

TT302- What was your issue? I had to replace my front diff because of a stuck CV. Now I’m having the same issue.

I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. whenever i start it and put it in drive, it doesnt move then when i press the gas pedal, it struggles then starts moving slowly then picks up. When in reverse, it wont move at all. But once i put it in Park and turn off the engine, start it up again and put it in drive, it moves immediately. What could be the problem? anyone with answers please?
