Smart keys for Hyundai sonata hybrid 2013

Not sure exactly what you mean. These are the No-Key strt vehicles. All you need to do is be close enough to the car for the big fat key fob to send signals to the cars computer. Once inside the car, all you need to do is step on the brake, hold it down and press the start button. There is a key built into the key fob and when you press the release on the top of the fob, they keys slides up out of the fob body. This key can only be used to lock the glove box, or to insert into a slot under a rubber plug, next to the gear shift lever. If you can't change gears for any reason or the battery is dead and you need to push the car, you put the key into the slot and push down on it while you shift the lever to where you want it.
When I bought my car they gave me a yellow plastic key which looks like a "folder tab" similar to a small post it, and was told I could use it in the event I lost my fob. I have never tried it and in fact, do not know where it is. But I'm thinking this is what you are talking about.
Hopefully after a year you've gotten an answer to this...but for anyone else seeking info...in the center console, take out the extra bin and there is a slot to put your key fob into. It will blink a little green light. Push it in. Then to remove it, push in again and it'll release.

I know what you mean. The battery in my key fob died when I was out of town. I used the mechanical key to get IN the car, but the car wouldn't recognize that the key was in the car. So, as Bobbie noted: In the centre console (arm rest thing), at the FRONT side near the bottom, you'll see a little slot / hole. Stick the fob in there (bottom side first) into the hole and push until it 'clicks' and holds the fod firmly. This will allow the car to recognize the key, even unpowered. Then, start the car as normal. Foot on brake, push button. That will get you home. Then buy a new battery for the fob!
