I usually disconnect the positive terminal, wait ten minutes. Reconnect, put key to on watch the lights come up, wait till the red light shuts off ( the anti theft indicator) if it doesn't shut off I hit the lock button on the fob while in the ignition, usually syncs the fob to the anti crap device. Then starts up normal

Guru112ps, you have no room to talk. There's a difference between mechanical and electrical, if you have no valuable input, dont post. I'm having the same issues. I checked ignition switch/actuator, ALL fuses and relays, all good, wcm working fine, ive checked everything on the ignition loop, and no go. I've narrowed it down to two things, it could either be the neutral safety switch, or the starter itself. I doubt it's the starter but I'll check anyway.

Dale Patric Mcgonagle ,Fellow Jeep liberty owner. I had to have a computer tech reset my computer. I'm trying to find his phone number now... He runs all over Florida and is honest and fair priced. Came to Tampa and got my Jeep running with major computer issues for a couple of hundred bucks.

The tech I used travels all over by appointment. A friend recommended him to me on F.B. When I needed my computer programmed as I replaced a module that ran a lot of stuff.

When a computer module went in my 04 it took part of the fuse center located inside the door with it. The module had to be reprogrammed and I had to replace the fuse panel as well.Andy at Jeep diagnosis came to my home and did the necessary programming. 352-263-9102 This is a Florida phone number. The man was honest and fair priced as well as very thorough.

Did you have the PCM programmed? Without programming it won't work.

120

Yes I did. Without the skim. Didn’t work. Ran a ground wire to the ground on the start relay, ran it up and down the street. Probably a short in one of the million wires. But it runs, everything works. Going to the auction

The problem is that it's a Jeep Liberty.

I'm going through the same thing so I want to share my experience. This is a trick to get the jeep to start but it's a temp fix. Your still gonna have to replace the switch. When this common malfunction occurs press the key in and up hard and slow and when you hear the starter stop turning the key and keep it in the same spot. If you keep turning past that point it will go back to the same as it was just keep that in mind and you won't get stranded.

I have been having a similar issue myself, Wont start or turn over.. infact when I use the key to start it via the ignition, nothing happens... I've tested that the starter itself is good, as Its brand new... Ive changed the power cable that runs from the battery to the starter.. (still same result when i try to start it) , I've triple checked EVERY single fuse and relay that is a part of the starting system (according to the owners manual) - 2005 Liberty 3.7L 6 speed manual ..Any help with this would greatly appreciated, as I've been fighting with this problem for the last 2 months now..

Steve. Try beefing up the ground. Run an extra wire from negative clamp to the alternator mount screw. I know it sounds hokie but adding extra ground pathing for alternator helped me fix my starting issues with my Jeep.

The injectors are leaking into the cylinders and flooding the engine. Once evaporated. it will start right up.

We have the same problem with our 2002 Liberty since an accident. I found that when the starter will not turn but everything else works it can only be the security or the neutral start switch. In the case of the Jeep Liberty 3.7 with Automatic Transmission this switch is INSIDE the transmission where the harness plugs into the case for the PCM. When this switch fails it stops sending the "Safe to Start" signal for Park or Neutral to the PCM which results in a NO START/NO Starter Rotation situation. I found that sometimes, not all times, cycling the shift from park to first gear and back can get the contacts to read that the transmission is in Park and the PCM would send the start signal allowing it to start. The NSS switch is internal to a module above the valve body in the transmission. I found a tab and head off of a torx screw on the magnet in the trany pan when I serviced the transmission. These may indicate the NSS module is shifting causing the failure to send the "Park" position signal to my PCM. I can't afford almost $350 for the module plus fluid, and other parts needed to take the module out to replace it yet so I am making do.

If your security light stays on your alarm has been triggered. You have to cycle it on and off again with the ignition key off so it will reset to get the security system to allow the engine to start. I have had this happen early on after we got our 2002 Liberty and it is SUPPOSED to work this way to prevent theft of the car. Resetting it turns off the security lock out that keeps the starter from working but the key has to be off. As for chipped keys. I have not seen any Jeep Liberty models with chipped keys before 2007 but of course I have not looked at any of the Dodge Nitro born Liberty Jeeps because they are not original and have plenty of issues themselves.

Mine drove fine but needed a battery so I replaced the battery with a interstate tc/marine battery brand new which has a regular top post and a threaded rod next to both red and black for different wiring hook ups when I was tightening the positive bolt I touched the threaded rod with my ratchet which caused sparks now it will not crank/ turnover or nothing when I put the key in it has power but when I turn the key it’s nothing I checked all the fuses that would b an issue starter fuse ignition fuse and switched a wiper relay with the starter relay and still nothing any advice plz

Most common fault with these older Liberty's is the switch actuator pin. Mounts between the ignition cylinder and the electrical switch. Took a while for an aftermarket part to become available so used to be had to replace entire steering column. At least I was never able to source one first time I did this job and did have to track down a entire junk yard steering column. So ladybugblue didn't necessarily get ripped off, the part just may not have been available yet. The metal is very weak so overcoming the spring in the ignition switch over the years leads to fatigue fractures in the aluminum. If the pin partially breaks it may just be a no crank, if fully broken may not be able to turn ignition on/off at all. Not too bad to replace but will need an assortment of torx screwdrivers. Same part is used for many Chrysler/Jeep cars from mid 90's to mid 2000's

i Know i had the same problem but i replaced fuses and 33 is the one for the data on the key fob replaced it and the locks and the panic buttons worked fine after that

I have a 2003 Jeep CRD , I am also getting just nothingness when Iturn the key, no crank, not even a click. For the past few months it has had a "sweet spot" only when turning the key that it starts with so probably something was failing. The mechanic took the actuator pin out and it all looked fine and so we thought maybe the switch which it connects to? Battery has been replaced as previous one went flat (could be related??) Open to any helpful suggestions.
