Red Signs and Van wont start

Asked by Aramita Jan 05, 2023 at 05:20 PM about the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I came home from a trip to my Van not being able to
start, and I jumped it but there was no change. A few
days ago by and I try starting it up again and I noticed
a Red lightning bolt sign that had appeared on my
dash. Before then the only warning signs that were on
my dash were a tire pressure sign and a engine light
sign. But now my Drive, Park, and Neutral signs are
popping up on my dashboard as Green, but my
Reverse sign shows up in Red. Im not sure what to
do. Help pls!

The red lighting bolt is a warning that the throttle control is not operating correctly, but you also have other problems that sounds like security issues. This can be caused by low battery voltage so even if you jumped it nothing would happen cause the security system has it locked down. This really sounds like it is a job for your favorite independent shop to dive into.

Has the battery ever been changed? It sounds like it died in the cold weather we have had across the country. Replace the battery.

This vehicle is "fly by wire" meaning no cable to throttle so no physical control of engine speed. The red lightning bolt w the reverse c's mean most likely position sensor is sending a conflicting signal to pcm. Computer put the start feature into lock out so incase throttle plate fails in open position the vehicle doesnt accelerate out of control placing you and others in jeopardy. This is a standard jeep dodge Chrysler ram built in fail safe.
