Stabilitrack Light and Service Pwer Steering Notification

Asked by Linda Aug 22, 2020 at 05:19 PM about the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox that both these things
came on at the same time. Is it one problem or separate
problems. How do I find out if I really need to take it to a
mechanic or if its an easy fix at home?

Most likely it's a problem with the electronic power steering system. Many times different systems work together and when there's a problem with one system, the other systems are disabled too. That will trigger more than one warning light. For example, if you have a problem with the antilock brake system the traction control system will be disabled too because both systems work together. So you'll have the ABS and TRAC OFF lights illuminated together. I would suggest taking it to your local Chevrolet Dealer for repairs. I've seen some horror stories develop with the electronic power steering systems when so called mechanics get their hands on them! These systems are just too sophisticated for a gas station garage or chain type of repair shop to be able to fix! Hope that helps! Jim
