I am not sure either. Check for corrosion while you are figuring it out.
The spring has nothing to do with the pulse going to the bulb allowing it to work properly. I would check the relay on that circuit. Most cars have a high beam and / or low beam relay. you might have a deficiency in a high beam relay. that happens. get another one at parts store. good luck
