won't go in reverse....only forward

Sounds like you need to replace the gears or the transmission, both of which are not an easy task meaning if you are not a very experienced mechanic it's time to take it to a mechanic. I had to have the tranny in my 98 jeep replaced for the same reason.

start with a check of your shifter alignment. As the vehicle ages, this becomes likely and this is where you start your troubleshooting. If not this, see the "replace gears or transmission" advice.
Okay...gears have nothing to do with this. Shifter linkage could...but probably not. I'd say that your reverse is shot in your trans.
passages plug up in them. you have to tear them apart and clean them out. after complete repair, add a cooler. there are several bulletins and recalls that may apply. you could get them up to date if it was apart and they apply to your VIN.

Rosa what did you end up doing ?? My mom has exact symptoms with her Jeep. After reading all horrific things that can happen trying to get it to reverse we towed the Jeep to Mechanic. He just called us and said we need a new transmission
Bruh the exact same thing is happening to my jeep. Shakes while reversing and pressing the gas just revs her, mechanics have been no help with diagnosing
