2014 Nissan Sentra transmission “repair”

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After it died unexpectedly a couple weeks ago, I took my 2014 Nissan Sentra
(55,000 miles) to my neighborhood mechanic, and he said the transmission
had failed & needed to be replaced.  I called Nissan and their mechanic
agreed.  After that, I found out that my certified pre-owned warranty from
Nissan was still in effect (7yrs/100,000 miles), so I called Nissan back and the
guy said he’d be happy to replace it as a warranty service.

A week later, I finally hear back from a different guy at Nissan:  they decided
not to replace the transmission, but to do a software update on a sensor body
instead.  He says it’s running fine and to come pick it up.

I know (only now) about the Nissan CVTs, so I feel like there’s good reason to
be concerned.  Any suggestions on what I can do?

Sell it while you can. Odds are it will fail soon. Trade it in on something other than a Nissan.

I was in your situation, but got a warrentee replacement. I immediately turned around and traded the car in. Highly recommend you do so as well, salvage what you can. Car is not worth putting any money into. Sorry for the bad news.
