4 wheel drive

i put my ford explores in 4 wheel drive and after a while it was making a thumping noise so i switched it back to 2
wheel drive while we were stopped and it  has gotten worse when i turned the car off the alarm went off and i
turned it back on and reversed it and it did a thumbing like  we were over a curb (we weren't) and then began to rev
itself....... what happened!!?!?!?!?!

Does the Ford move at all? Sounds like your drive shaft could have become disconnected. Bad U joint.
