First does the cooling fan come on when you turn the AC system On? Try jumping the compressor clutch directly, check to see its engaging, It might have failedin the last day, or the system has developed a leak, test by jumping the pressure switch on the accumulator tank.
I know this is pretty old and you may have found a solution by now but it still may be helpful in the future. I have a 95 model also and once had a strange compressor problem myself. I could tap on the clutch lightly with a crescent wrench and it would engage. After some long searching on the net, I found out this: Underneath the clutch-plate at the pulley, if you take off that nut, there are two small washers behind the plate. Over time, the distance between the plate and clutch increases due to wear. So if you simply remove one single washer, and reattach the plate, it will decrease the distance issue and allow it to make easy contact once again. It was a 5 minute job and I haven't had a problem with it since. Hope this was useful.
