on a 2004 Kia Sorento, will a bad crank position sensor prompt a cyl #5 misfire (P0305) ? If so does the sensor isolate which cylinder is reading a misfire or is it a random signal ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm told the crank sensor will prompt a misfire code on a 2004 Kia Sorento. Does the crank sensor sense that particular cyl (#5) with the problem ? I have new plugs and wires on this and have spark at cyl #5 by putting another plug in the wire boot and can watch the spark.

An OBDII scan can detect a misfire on any given cylinder. The scan is also capable of detecting (actually reading what the ECU has stored as a code thrown by the OBD is a better way to put it) a bad crankshaft sensor. BUT that does NOT necessarily mean that is what is causing the misfire...possible, but not certain

I have a 03 kia sorento and had the exact same problem, had replaced everything which puzzled me, was a brand new crank sencer too but it was bad replaced it again problem solved. Bad thing is now the crank pin keeps breaking I'm also on my third try love the car but hate the crank. Today I'm replacing the crank bolt with a 5/8 course threaded #8 bolt and lock washer
