Nissan CVT's are a disaster. Check with Nissan and they may replace your transmission under warranty.
i have a 2016 Nissan Rogue SL and my transmission stopped working in the middle of the highway !!!!!! thank god i was able to pull over. out of no where i just couldn't push on the gas. I had no lights come on and when my fiance took my car to the dealership they said nothing was wrong and it was working fine again ! they did a scan of my car after my finance was persistent and said something was wrong. well wouldn't you know a bunch of errors came up. my car is now in the shop and getting a brand new transmission. after my research the CTV transmission is garbage. they are known for failing and breaking. thank god i'm still under warranty or id be looking at a $5000 bill. they are putting another CTV transmission in so this will liking happen again. we now have to consider taking a hit and ditching the car.
Hello! I'm looking for people who have less than a 100k miles who are having issues with their CVT. Are you willing to chat?
This is not a "chat" site. You post your question and wait for answers. My suggestion is to post a new question rather than on an old thread like this one.
My wife 2014 Rogue CVT went out around 63K mile on the vehicle. Luckily we were still under warranty and Nissan replaced the CVT without any cost to us. We will be getting a new vehicle soon.

My 2016 Nissan Rogue SV just blew out it's CVT at 43,000 miles. Repair covered under warranty. Total cost for the replacement was $3440. Also, a year ago my Rogue had the popular driver's seat assembly problem. The entire thing was replaced at the cost of $1250. Thankfully that repair made it under the warranty as well. That's close to $5000 in repairs on a car that's 2 1/2 years old. I'm not sure what happened, but Nissan's are junk now. The Nissan heyday of the 90's is definitely over. Avoid Nissan, at least the ones with the CVTs, at all costs.
Just lost the CVT in my 2012 Rogue with 86K. No warning except whinning (by me too!) the day of; no dashboard warning lights. Dealer wants $4060. I've requested a case no. through Nissan and am shopping around for used CVTs (yeah - I know). Remanufactured (3-yr warranty) quote online is $2600 + 8-hrs labor (guessing ~$800). After experiences with Mazda and now Nissan, I'm returning to Honda or Toyota where my experiences for reliability and low maintenance costs has been stellar.
The CVT transmisions are belt drive, A belt driven Alternator, power steering pump or mower deck may be fine but no way to I want a belt in a sealed transmission where you have to completely dissemble the transmission to replace it. I would rather get a gallon a mile less fuel mileage and go with a standard transmission. Think about the things you have had to replace on your vehicles over the years and it's likely batteries and belts.
If it matters to anyone, Nissan did offer to pay 70% of parts & labor for replacing the CVT in my 2012 Rogue with 86K miles even though it was not included in their extended warranty. Used transmissions were scarce and the one that was found would've cost nearly as much as the new one installed by the Nissan dealer.
I have a 2017 Rogue with 26K miles mostly highway. The engine started getting louder, then a fluttering noise upond acceleration. Dealer kept the car to video and send to Nissan. So disappointed! I always tell everybody that I love the car except for the noisy engine. I miss my 98 Pathfinder!
I have a 2014 Rogue Select AWD. I recently had an issue with the cvt engine. It would shift while driving when the car was warmed up. Two days ago, it wouldn't shift out of first gear. The engine kept jerking like it was trying to shift to the next gear - which doesn't make sense since cvt's don't have gears. I took it to the dealer twice and they were not able to duplicate the problem. I'm seriously worried that it will happen again and leaves me stranded.
What kind of trasmission can be used to replace a Nissan rogue 2010 Thanks
Hey there. We have a 2013 rogue. The transmission went out at 35,000 miles. Nissan dealership replaced it under warranty. Fast forward 18 months and that brand new transmission went out at 47,000 miles. I’ve absolutely had it with this car and will never buy another Nissan.
I have a 2015 Rogue and just had the CVT transmission replaced at 55,000 miles. It was covered under warranty and didn't have to pay anything. They told me that the new one would be good for the life of the car, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had problems with it again. Nissan isn't the only one having problems with this transmission, more and more car manufacturers are using them, Subaru, Toyota, Honda, etc. and they're also having problems with them.
Quote. "good for the life of the car" When the next transmission is dead so is the car ;)
I just had my transmission go out without warning in my 2016 Rogue on the highway. 122,000 hey miles with the engine looking great at all my checkups. This also happened with my 2014 but it was glitchy. I had been happy with this car until now. Still wrangling with Nissan because this shouldn’t happen! It’s been in the shop for 12 days now pending their decision. Ugh!!!Of course I’ll never have anothe rCVT transmission but I have to pay this one down before trading!!
Not so lucky. I have a 2016 Nissan Rogue SL (got the extended warranty up until 75,000miles) and I also paid for the major service once you hit 50,000 miles outside of my service plan the inspected your CVT. March 2019, I got my car serviced with the check point inspection and came back with no issues. It's now April 2019 and my Transmission has officially went out!!! I noticed the issue yesterday and made an appointment to only find this out. Now just my luck I am outside of my warranty by 300 miles so I had to foot the bill ($4000). I asked about the recalls on the 2010-2016 Nissan Rogues' CVTs and you guessed it my VIN isn't one of them...yea ok. I'll give it till the end of the year and the select models will be on the list as well. I just find it hard to believe that even after getting my car serviced a month ago a major issue like this would take place. I am livid and they had the nerve to ask if I would like to trade out for a new Nissan...@#%#$ Nissan. I think they BS'd me on previous services.....
My mother and I both own 2016 Nissan Rogue AWDs. My transition went out last year at around 46k miles. Hers just went out around 42K miles, including the rear drive shaft. We both love our Rogues, but this is ridiculous. We won't buy again.
have a 2016 rogue. only 29,000 miles. car died on highway. transmission slipping clunking started out of nowhere had it towed to dealership but they don't open until tomorrow. how do I find out if this will be covered. the car is leased???
my rogue select 2014 , 104000 miles, has the same issue. The speed reduced to 30mph suddenly on hill. It was very dangerous with my family, because so many trucks and cars were behind me with high speed. Who knows whether Nissan replaces my transmission without any cost? Thank you,
Rogue 2014, 55k miles. Went yesterday - computer they say. I'm probably going to sell the car and get into payments on something else. I thought I was free of debt...
Rouge 2013 , 83k miles .transmission , No warranty by the dealer - repair cost S4K and just pay laon

Rogue 2016 SL, 56k miles, Just had the driver's seat rail assembly problem and they wanted $1250. I have the Nissan extended warranty and 1st Nissan refused the vehicle saying that part number was not under warranty. I gave up when they said they would only charge me $500! According to Nissan it is covered, but what to do when they say no? Now I have the CVT transmission slipping problem. I am crossing my fingers if 1st Nissan will refuse another obviously covered warranty part. What's Next to go? What's next not to be covered? The dealer must hate trying to cover my issues under warranty so I am thinking they are looking for a way out.
My 2015 Rogue transmission just went out, it barely has 32,000 miles. I am so sad and so disappointed with Nissan thank God it’s under warranty but I’m going to get it fixed and get rid of it.
We bought a used 2017 Rogue last year with low miles and didn't have any issues until a week ago. When putting into drive, it started pausing before engaging, and the time it takes to engage has increased every day. After we start moving, it drives fine for however far we go. We had noticed some drive train noise prior to this issue. I don;t know if this is typical of some of the problems mentioned previously. I'm not crazy about taking it to the dealer which screwed me out of the free oil change they promised.
My 2013 Rogue started this morning, but I left it and went with someone else. When i started to driver it 2 hours later, the loudest clanking around came out of the engine. I thought the rods were doing it. I Turner it off, checked the soul and it was excellent.
To the guy with the 17 rogue, scan it for codes even though the light is not on. You may have p0776 stored. My 17 rogue did the same thing as yours. After a few months of that, the cvt just completely died. Glad I was on a side street near my house when it happened. I limped it back home and parked it. Car has 79k highway miles. I'm the original owner.
I just brought to the dealer my 2015 Rogue Nissan because my transmission CVT had problem. My warranty ended on December 2019. They said it will cost me $5,000.00 to fix it. I only have 85,000 km. Is there something I can do so Nissan will pay for it?
After my earlier post, the transmission died and limped to the Nissan dealer. Almost $6,000 later we drove away with a reconditioned transmission with only 12 months or 12,000 mile warranty. The car was just 7,000 miles out of warranty and the dealer could do nothing to help with the expense. I've read where some people got help from Nissan. Does anyone have contact information to get Nissan to help with SOME $$?
My 2015 Rouge had the same issues with the transmission and all of the other people here. 88k miles and no help at all from Nissan! Unfortunately the replacement WILL fail again so I will drive it for 5 more months until the car is paid off then trade it in for a Hyundai. Nissan KNOWS the transmissions are faulty yet they still use them! Oh and I was asked why I didn't get the extended warranty....Because I SHOULD'NT have to pay more to fix something they KNOW is bad!! I trusted them by buying from them but never again! How can these people sleep at night knowing they are putting us all in a financial hardship in times like these?!?!?!
My 17 rogue has been sitting at the dealer for a month waiting on a transmission. It failed at 79k miles. I called Nissan corporate, and they refused to do anything to help. I won't be buying another Nissan again.
Yeah I forgot to mention that I called Nissan corporate as well...No help at all! I pointed out they they have issues with these transmissions for years and still no help! I wanted to support them because Nissan North America is located here in Tennessee and the Rouge was built just down the road from where I live...Nope! I have and WILL tell everyone I know not to buy from them! I have a friend that works at Car-Max and he tells me he has 4-6 Nissans in every week with the same transmission issues and not just on Rouges!
I have Nissan Rogue 2015 - 66K miles just passed warranty of 60K, as per Nissan Dealer need to replace the transmission , escalated to Nissan corporate , they are not willing to help !! because it is not under warranty. (>60K) even though this is a known issue on this Car, what to do? please advice.
I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue AWD SV with 118k miles. Took the car in to be serviced and 3 days later the transmission went out. Nissan told me they advise to change the transmission fluid every 30k miles but never once made that recommendation to me. Everyone with these issues, please file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety. If they get enough complaints, they can make Nissan issue a recall due to the dangers of the transmission prematurely failing without warning (to my understanding at least). I also filed a complaint with the BBB. Nissan needs to recognize the issue with the CVT transmissions in these newer models, just like they did with the older models.
I had my rogue for 12 years, not it's at 230,000 km never had problem. All i did is oil change every 5000 km.
I believe that owners of Nissan Rogue vehicles should sue NISSAN to agree to extend warranties and reimburse repair costs for consumers who purchased Nissan Rogue with defective transmissions..
I have a 2008 Rogue, when I found out about tube extended warranty my car was to old and was out of warranty but still under in miles. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? If it's a bad transmission why isn't it covered regardless of the year.

2015 Nissan Rogue. I love this vehicle, let's start with that. Had my transmission go out approx. two weeks ago. 127k on it. It gave chasis control error with about 10 codes. Root problem was my tranny overheated! Just 3 weeks before had fluid changed by a franchise oil change place. Was told that that they didn't have enough fluid. Was also told that Nissan has a proprietary software which they use to measure temp within tyranny which tells them to add or remove fluid for temperature. Just spent $5000 and have my Rogue back. Runs good but we'll see how this new one holds up as this is my work vehicle.

My 2019 rogue SL AWD had some sound coming from front side. Took it for service and they couldn't find any problem. Went in again talked to service manager and had a Technician to hear the sound. Now they are changing my CVT transmission under warranty. Also my driver seat base is getting replaced the second time.

Wife and I were looking at purchasing a 2014 Rogue. We researched ahead of time and were aware of the CVT issues, but since the transmission had been replaced approximately 6 months prior we figured we'd be ok. Bought an extended warranty just in case. About 40k miles after purchasing, the new transmission crapped out. Still under warranty, so my wife took it to the Nissan dealership in Pensacola, FL. While working out the warranty paperwork to replace the transmission, she began looking into just trading it in towards a new vehicle. She found a 2017 Rogue with about 28k miles and started discussing the transmission issues with the service manager. He told her that Nissan had made a change to the transmissions in the 2016 model and that they were much improved. Based on that information, and the fact that they offered a lifetime power train warranty, we went ahead and traded in the 2014 (even though we were still a bit upside down on it). Now only two months after purchasing the 2017 (which is now only at about 32k miles), the transmission is having issues. Wife took it to the Nissan dealership again, they "re- programmed" it, and said if f it was going to have further issues they'd show up in about 1k miles or so - we'll see how it goes. Wife wants to just get rid of it, but we're now so upside down on the loan that it's not going to be possible. Kicking myself every day for letting her get the second Rogue (fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice shame on me).
Someone on this thread mentioned a "lifetime powertrain warranty." I've never heard of any such warranty. My 2016 Rogue tranny failed at 67,000 miles, 7k beyond warranty, and Nissan offered ZERO help. Cost $5,700 to replace it with a rebuilt which was warrantied for 6 months or 6k miles. Buyer beware!
CVT failed the other day at 81,000 miles. Not under extended warranty, no recall, no help from Nissan Corporate. $4000 for new transmission. Trade in value on the vehicle is only $5,200 at KBB. Still making payments. Car still driving ok, some minor stuttering/slipping. How long can I drive this car for until it completely breaks? My sister had a Lexus with trans issues and got a whole year of driving out of it. I plan on getting some transmission fluid today and go from there. Also wondering what my options are, probably transfer the debt over at my bank and take my losses. Thinking of a lease next, tired of dealing with warranties, terrible parts, under coding and all the crap what have you that goes with owning a car. Hands down the Rogue is the worst vehicle ive owned. One of the rear doors flat out will not open from the inside. You can tell how cheap the car was made simply by closing one door. Also reading online that these CVTs are an absolute disaster
