new spectra owner: have a few questions

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i just bought a 01 from a friend. it's a 5 speed manual and i have trouble with 2nd grinding if i don't let the rpms drop down to about 1700. also it seems to run at high rpm, at 60 mph-3500 rpms, just wondering if the 1.8 runs high or is something not right. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have a 2 liter spectra ex and it runs about the same. 3000rpms at 60mph. Nothing to worry about. My second gear used to grind as well but that was because there is a fault within the clutch in my car, so i had to replace the whole gear. Now for about 12000 miles i haven't had much problems with it, but i do need another clutch already

ooh and for the grinding, it seems to be that the manual transmission isn't build though enough for this car. My transmission started to act up after about 12,000 miles, it was grinding as well. Took it to AAMCO and they just fixed it.
