Mazda 2016 Airbag light always flashing. Dealer said…

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

They charged me $155. + tax to run a diagnostic test on the airbag sensor. I

was told I need a new sensor, and because it is located in the seat cushion I

will need a new sensor and cushion that will cost $900 + and they would apply

the $155. To that charge.  This all seems excessive to me.

Dealer prices are always excessive, and in todays economy it’s more so. Now you maybe able to find an independent shop that can do it cheaper with aftermarket parts if they are available. Stay away from dealerships unless you have no option.

The diagnosis is a standard cost for a dealer, so you will have to pay that. $900 for a seat cushion? Maybe a tad much, but costs are crazy right now. Contact a local mechanic for a second opinion, they might be able to remove the seat and just replace the sensor Though the sensor might be part of the cushion and you would not be able to replace separately.
