has anyone had a problem with the back sensors, they do not aleert me when someone is walking behind the car, only if there might be a car coming from a block away

I had a problem last July. The rear sensor would alert me to high up items like a parking meter but not a fire hydrant. So when I backed up I hit it. Rental company is going after me.
