No this is not, You have something increasing the rpm's causing it to idle fast. More than likely a Throttle Positioning Sensor and or the plugins wires, some may be broken internally. (under the insulation of the wire). Your check engine light should be on, should stop somewhere and get the codes read to verify this.
Also, it is a catch twenty two on shifting out of drive into neutral. One way is harder on the brakes, the other is harder on the trany. I would just leave it in drive.
