If you have a spare key try it. Sometimes dropping a key with a chip in it can cause them to be damaged.
What floor were you on?? I mean, I've dropped my keys several times and there's been NO EFFECT at all, but, if you were say on a higher floor and accidentally dropped them from a fourth story....I could see this as an issue.... Yes, let us know..... REALLY,. I think it's more likely that your key fob battery is DEAD.....
This is the more likely scenario, see this article below, good luck, https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or- failing-key-fob-battery
Read the section on the dead battery in the article, YES, it will cause your engine NOT to start....
A lady I used to work with dropped her Ford Edge key and it cost her $125 to get a new one. Dropping it on the floor rendered it unusable and there was no visible damage. I don't think this happens often, but it does happen.
Bob, $125 is an absolute bargain!! My 2009 Toyota Prius has a remote transmitter key that allows you to walk up to the car and open the door without doing anything, no button pushing or anything on your part, pretty sweet, but, the cost for replacement on that transmitter is $750.....! My 2010 Subaru has a more traditional key fob and requires you to push a button on the key to lock or unlock the door... replacing this would be $350...... SO,. I don't know how this friend of yours got off so cheap. Could be a regional thing, I live in a large metropolitan city.. in any case, I really think that this person should start with the battery.... It's the simplest solution and costs the least....
You always start with the simple things like the battery....
By the way, when you have something that is this expensive and electronic instruments usually are, be VERY CAREFUL just like you would with your cell phone to avoid dropping them...
naswilli--- please let me know if it was the battery.... thanks.---Mark
