almost sure the solenoid sits on top the starter and they get replaced as a unit , , is it getting power when you hit the key ?

Not sure. I am having to replace the ignition switch, not the key part but the electric contact component. I just replaced it yesterday and the new one got used twice then stopped sending power to the starter just like the old one. When I used a wire to bypass the switch yesterday the starter engaged, but today it doesn't. I tested the replacement switch and it is not sending power, and bypassing the switch isn't working now.

a multi tester will tell you where there is power and ground where there is not
Can you tell or show where the starter is on a Chevy Uplander LT 2008
