Sounds like You Forgot to Unhook the Battery while Changing the Alternator and Now the Dash Lights and Everything Else will Not Work

Check for a main fuse from alternator to the under the hood circuit box and main circuit breakers in that or to that box, You may also have fuse links and test the alternator voltage regulator. Check grounds to frame from engine and battery neg - ground to frame.

Enginecreator its an 84 the only thing ive found is the fuse box under the dash on the inside im going to check every fuse tomorrow in hope to find 1 blown idk what else to do its gotta be some type of fuse blown

The fuse breakers I speak of are not the normal size that are in your under the dash fuse box, but are larger and in the breaker box under hood. You may not be able to see inside it either and test with a multi-meter. Some still had fuse links into the mid 1980's so I added fuse links to my post for those that do have them that will need to know in the future as this post will be here for ever. Look below at this picture, you will see it is not see threw, so unless its tested or just changed out with a new one, looking at it will not tell you anything. BTW this picture may disappear soon as it is not my picture but a copy of the fuse listed on another site for this specific model.

Any wire connections un-hooked or burned wires from battery to alternator or in between dash. Check for power in each location and find out where it does or does not have power, not with just looking by eye-ball but using a volt-meter. Look with your volt-meter. What is left un-hooked? Which wires did you see arch or spark or did any? If so those would be where I would start, some models have fuses in the wire harness from alternator, check to see if yours does or not. You may just need to get you a repair book with wiring diagrams to find the likely place for your short. the models with no fuse box under dash had fuse links.

Your welcome, I meant to say above (models with no fuse box under dash) (should be hood) is that before under the hood fuse boxes were started to be used those had fuse links to protect the electrical system instead of the under the hood fuse box.

The fuse links can be from battery to alt or from either to firewall.
enginecreator answered 7 years ago
Which in your case since the engine is almost inside the van your fuse links can be from battery to alt or in between those and main fuse box.
Hmmm, it sounds like you shouldn't be working on your vehicle and might be causing more harm than good. The FIRST thing you do when working on anything electric on a vehicle is DISCONNECT the battery.
