Auto Start/Stop not working correctly

My wife had my car last night and is not familiar with the auto start/stop feature.
When she parked at the restaurant the engine shut itself off before she put it in
park. Not thinking about it she just left the car with it still in Drive but the engine
off. A couple hours later now and it will not start. Gets a warning that it is not in
Park. She put it in park but it still will not start. Any ideas?

Did she try and turn it off first the ignition first. Then try starting it again using the full procedure, foot on the brake, press the button? Disable the auto start stop?
