manual 5 speed behind 4.0 l

Asked by GuruT2F5X Jul 17, 2018 at 10:50 AM about the 1994 Ford Ranger

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 ford ranger xlt that has a 4.0 liter v 6 with a manual transmission,
it has 260,000 miles on it, I went to check the trans oil and I could not feel
the oil, so I drained the trans and filled it with 50 wt syn gear oil. was this a
bad ideal, Im a diesel mechanic and most of the trucks i work on thats what
we put into the trans after we flush them, I tryied to find the spec but had no
luck, any info would be helpful, thank you

Guru, automatic transmission fluid is to be used in the standard Trans in your Ranger, Dexron 4 or 5 can be used, but any auto Trans fluid is better than what you used. if your a mechanic you know now you will have to flush with proper fluid for a few miles then drain and refill 3 to 4 quarts.
