better have it fixed, forcing it into gear will destroy the tranny.
You may have to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders to solve the issue.

and I think they use an o-ring type connector , when I did the slave cylinder in a 93 ranger I sat in it turned off and stomped the clutch about 500 times to make sure it didn't leak , like I said you drive it like that you;'ll ruin the tranny.

I have a 97 ranger and I have to stomp the cluch about 6 times (fast) then i can drop it into 4th then all the gears will then open up each time I drive it I have to repeat this cycle about 76% of the time I'm driving it it will shift find the other 24% of the time it's harder to shift ....
Few things you need to properly bleed the clutch. Hand pump, clear tubing, 1 quart of DOT3. and a catch pan. 1st: use the pump and cone shaped attachment to remove any air from the line right below the reservoir. 2nd: fill to the top. DON'T remove old fluid no matter how bad. 3rd: Go under the truck and insert clear tube tight onto the clutch bleeder and open to drain into pan. 4th: go back to reservoir and continue to fill as it empties, DO NOT LET IT EMPTY. 5th: after a quart of DOT 3 has gone through the clutch lines all fluid AND air has been flushed through and fluid in clear tube should be clear. top off reservoir, go under and close bleeder tight and then use hand pump to lvl down excess in reservoir. It's called "GRAVITY BLEED" and is easy enough for 1 person to do and takes as long as it takes to empty 1 quart of brake fluid. IF this doesn't work then you need your clutch fixed, it's NOT a bleeding issue.

if tranny not making noise and good pressure on pedal, linkage probably needs work. could have worn bushings.
It's a 3 year old thread. I'd think they got it by now.
"It's a 3 year old thread. I'd think they got it by now." So you're saying that no one should add any other helpful tips? That Guru is the very last person who will EVER need the info on this problem? I've dealt with 2 manual Ranger clutch jobs and threads like this helped. If you have issues dealing with people adding to old threads, pertinent information to help others fix easy auto issues, then MAYBE you should avoid commenting on older threads and stick only to new threads, seeing you REALLY didn't offer anything useful to help solve the problem except tell everyone how old the thread is.
