03 Ford ranger 2.3L 5 speed manual transmisson

My 03 Ford rangers transmission is going out. I've been
told that Mazda  B2300 transmissions between the years
01-2011 as well as Ford rangers that year range will work.
Was wondering if any years before that will work and if a
3.0 litre Ford rangers transmission will work as well and if
so what I need to do to make it work like switch out the bell
housing or what?

mazda 2.3L 2300 transmission 01-11 is the same as ranger 2.3L 01-11 (they came off the same assembly line). I believe the 3.0 transmission is different (likely different gearing). you will want the 2.3L and make sure it is 4x2 or 4x4 to match your vehicle. The entire unit is removed. you will probably want to put in a new clutch at the same time, but not absolutely required.
