Could it be my starting relay?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I can drive my truck to work and go to leave just fine. But when I drive to the
store 10-15 minutes away, go inside, then come back out 5-10 minutes later it
doesnt start. Lights come on but no click or anything. I took the battery in and it
tested good. I recently replaced the alternator but its still acting up. Any help?

If you have an automatic transmission try starting it in neutral. If it will start then, the neutral safety switch is bad. If you have a stick shift, for testing purposes, bypass the clutch safety switch. If the problem goes away, the switch is bad. You can also try hitting the starter a few times with a hammer. If that gets you going the starter is bad. Hope that helps! Jim

It must be the neutral safety switch. tried starting in neutral and it didn’t work but it did in drive. Thanks for the help. I also found out just now that my reverse lights come on in neutral instead of reverse.
