Overheated Mazda Tribute

Asked by Adrian Jun 08, 2017 at 06:42 PM about the 2005 Mazda Tribute

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is overheating after around 40 minutes driving.
Twice I had a smoke coming out. Ten realised that coolant
heated and licked. After making it cool (2h) refilled coolant
(used room temperature water) and can drive another
more or less 40mins. Any idea what is wrong ?

If the car is leaking coolant it will overheat once the level drops so fix the leak!

Now checked and there is still almost full level of the coolant not like the previous time but still overheated. Hmmm...

Once the car warms up the cooling system pressure will increase which will make the leak worse. ANY leak at all will lead to overheating - not that complicated to understand.

Perhaps you should do some coolant system maintenance. New hoses, water pump, thermostat, radiator flush and new coolant. Make sure the cooling fan is working.
