WHATS CRANKCASE LOOKS LIKE?

If you take the oil pan off the bottom of the engine, and look up you will see the crankshaft with piston rods attached ..that is the crankcase, with pan on and oil at proper level, inside that area is crankcase.

Another word for crankcase is engine block, or 'short' block. Everything below the intake manifold, heads and above the oil pan.
DavidH25 explains it best. It's the area that encloses the Crankshaft as he described.
