Who do you get your estimates from?

Question type: General
Where did you get your mileage estimates from?
My 2018 Malibu hybrid gets same mileage that you
show for a 2018 Malibu conventional engine I want
to know so that I can prove that hybrids should not
be taxed additional because the mileage estimates
aren't that big of a difference.

Posted MPG is based on EPA ratings. The 2018 Malibu is rated at 49 city, 43 highway for an avg. of 46 mpg. Some drivers have said they are only getting 39 combined. Real world MPG is different than rated MPG. The more city driving the do the higher it will go, and how you drive and hit the throttle, outside temperature, etc. Who are you trying to sway to avoid taxes? The state DMV?
EPA gas mileage ratings are pretty much the last word on how many miles to the gallon a vehicle gets. Their findings on any particular vehicle are used by all State and Federal agencies. This is also why they say "your mileage may vary". These agencies really don't care what gas mileage you, me, or anyone else is getting in the real world. They feel that the tests have been done using very sophisticated equipment and that's that! Sorry! Jim
