Asked by Drdmk Dec 22, 2016 at 06:56 PM about the 2000 Mazda Protege

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Old battery wouldnt crank....so changed it out with
a new battery, headlights came on
imediately...unfortunately that is the only thing that
would work, nothing else in the car would
work...wouldnt even recognise the key in ignition....
had to disconect the battery to turn the headlights
off...has anybody else had this issue? What needs
to be done?

Sounds as if you lost the memory in the ECM and has to be reflashed, that is something a dealer would need to do.
