Unless there is some kind of massive head gasket leak from the rear of the engine, it sounds like a freeze plug has left loose. In many vehicles there is at least one freeze plug that in some cases is covered or partially covered by the transmission. It is also possible that there is a crack in the block at this location, causing fluid to escape.
