Gas gage
Asked by Smokeys5105 Dec 16, 2017 at 11:10 AM about the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis
Question type: General
I filled my 2005 grand marquis up last. We
were on the road today for about an hour
and the gage went to empty and the digital
dash said we had no gas. Stopped at gas
station and if only took 7.00 to fill back up.
What could this problem be?

Sounds like there may be an issue with the fuel sending unit in the gas tank or a wiring issue. Also there could be a problem with the digital dash. Time to go to a mechanic for diagnosis.
Fuel float is sticking. Sometimes tapping on the gas tank near the fuel pump area will free it up. If that doesn't work, you will need to drop the fuel tank. In order to not confuse your ECM, you should always disconnect the negative battery cable prior to unhooking any connection. Remove the sending unit. The fuel pump and float are attached right there. Replace and re-install. Connect battery cable. Now you will need to retrain your ECM for cold run and hot run then retrain its shift positions.
