Blower only gives defrost

Asked by GuruVJY7N Sep 22, 2018 at 05:39 PM about the 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Blower only gives defrost air regardless of the setting.
Additionally, the blower motor died, then a few weeks later
kicked on. It functioned normally for the day, and died again
the next day. Now the blower motor doesn't start at all. I
suspect that is the relay. Any leads on why the blower only
gives defrost?

When it is quiet enough I can actually hear the pieces and parts adjusting when I redirect the would be air from floor to vent. Still unsure why the blower won't turn on. Today I'm going to be replacing the blower motor. Hopefully that solved that problem. As for the defrost situation I'm going to also try replacing the control on the dash if I'm lucky enough to find one for a fair price that still works at a junkyard. I did some reading that it could also be something deep in the passenger side of the dash. I'd rather avoid digging that far into my dash if able.
